Finally, a win. Yes, a win. I know, you say seven games...seven straight games lost. Many wins that were given away in the fourth quarter (Bulls) or worse in the last seconds (Celtics). The sting of Celtics loss sent the Cats reeling. As a stunned crowd stared blankly at the floor only filled with Bobcats players staring blankly at the Jumbotron looking for answers. They nearly seemed to be looking towards the sky for divine intervention with some kind of time reversal. Ray Allen was carried off the floor and down the tunnel. The crowd and the Cats stood...stunned. Losses then racked up effortlessly. We even lost Varajeo, who we tried to sign to help in the rebound and toughness category. A LeBron-less Cavs team took us to the final seconds, in a back and forth. Again, a team we let back in the game. This time we were saved by our Achilles heel...free throws. 75% of them went down. For us that's huge. Emeka has been clanging and for some reason Raymond Felton's FT and FG percentages are awful for a guard.
Where do we stand now? 7-11. No slurpees here, just four games under 500 ball. Not good. The only team below us is Miami, who happened to win a championship two years ago and still have Dwayne Wade and Shaq, along with Ricky Davis and a renewed J Will. NOT GOOD. We've plummetted to 11 out of 15 in the East. Out of the four teams below us...Miami, Chicago, NY, and Philly...Three (all except Philly) were picked to be in the Playoffs and have solid squads. They could surge at any time. We could be looking down at 14th or 15th quickly.
Crossroads. No, not the silly movie with Ralph Macchio and Steve Vai. I mean the turning point. The Cats are looking at a season that could be like it was 8 games ago, when we above 500 and second in division and 4th in the East or...OR...in a race for last. We're only 4.5 games out of last against those three playoff likely teams.
Something needs to change. The rotation. The workouts. The confidence. The plays. Maybe a new player...something. We can't win 1 out of 8 and be satisfied. Oh and it gets better. Our scheduled is front-loaded with home games. In February, March and April there's only about 4 homes games a month. The last few months could be brutal on the road.
This streak changed everything. Hopes seem to have faded. The playoffs seems unlikely. The team seems to be lacking effort or focus as well. We can understand, Phoenix beating us...they're better. They should win. But games like the Chicago one where we were lazy and let them come back...well, that's just shameful. We need a Varajeo right now. I don't know who we can get, but someone that is tough as nails, does dirty works and fights. A Ben Wallace, Ron Artest, etc. Someone who makes a team feared.
Applications will be accepted and I'll tell they'll pay at least 17 million for it.
